The Clan

The Clan is a series of bambooware created through parametric design and traditional craftsmanship. The concept is inspired by the connection of families associated with kinship sharing the same ancestor. Gamzar uses Grasshopper, the visual programming language, and parametric equations to design the structural mock-ups. Sharing the same design logic, different forms are rendered by modifying the parameters. The works are then created by bamboo crafting, knotting, polishing, and weaving.

By heating the bamboo strips evenly using a heating gun, Gamzar can adjust each curve to the same angle to create a streamlined structure. After preparing the strips, Gamzar assembles the structure according to the design. To strengthen the structure, holes are drilled on the intersections for rattan knotting. Lastly, he encloses the structure with a simple hexagonal weave, demonstrating his aesthetic interpretation of the work.
